Jan. 31, 2026Rooftop Solar Panels By Subscription: Up To 50% Savings On Electricity Bills
Since 1954, when the first silicon photovoltaic cell was invented, solar energy has grown to be the cheapest form of electricity in history. Today, solar + storage, without subsidies, is cheaper than any fossil fuel: coal, oil, or gas. Worldwide, and even in this country with the current administration's anti-solar agenda, solar accounts for the majority of the new electric generation that is being installed today. There are different types of solar technologies: solar photovoltaic (PV), solar thermal energy, passive solar design, floating solar, the rapidly growing balcony solar industry, and others.
ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Energy efficiency is the most cost-effective tool we have. It is said that "The cheapest energy is the energy we don't use". By investing in making homes more energy efficient, we are saving money for everyone. The individual customer saves money on their electric bill. Also, using less energy reduces the need to build costly new infrastructure in order to supply more energy, which saves money for everyone.

GEOTHERMAL ENERGY
Geothermal energy, tapping into the Earth's natural warmth to generate electricity and heat, is gaining momentum in our country and around the world. This technology uses the same methods that fracking for natural gas does, and new advancements that make it easier to drill deep into the Earth make it accessable anywhere on the Planet. It provides a baseload source of energy for electric power plants, is renewable, and has a very small carbon footprint.

STORAGE
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are a necessary addition to intermittent energy resources such as wind and solar. Utility-scale BESS systems have been added to the grid around the world at an accelerated rate in the last 5 years, and this trend shows no sign of slowing down as the costs continue to plummet. Existing technologies are becoming cheaper, and new technologies are being explored. Bess systems help to stabilize the grid, provide energy reliability, give energy independence, and help with cost optimization.
Read how this proposed BESS system on Britain's east side will integrate a battery system with a port city.

AGRIVOLTAICS
Agrivoltaics is gaining traction around the country as a viable way for farmers and ranchers to get more income from their land. Farmers get income not only from the crops they grow or the livestock they raise, but also from the electricity they generate that they can use on their farm or sell to others. It’s a win-win situation. The crops and panels have a symbiotic relationship. Certain crops grow better in partial shade and give higher yields, while the evapotranspiration of the crops provide cooling for the panels, making them more efficient. The shading also helps in water conservation as less water evaporates under the panels. They can also provide habitat for pollinators, such as bees, which in turn is good for better crop production. Virtual Power Plants (VPP's) may be the energy technology of the future. Harnessing the power that already exists, instead of building new sources of power, makes economic sense. VPP's aggregate the power of rooftop solar panels, home batteries, small wind turbines, smart thermostats, and more, and through the use of software these energy sources are combined to create a power plant. The grid may look very different in the future.
